Today is Michael Jackson’s birthday (1958-2009) which would have made him 52 today. In honor of the day, we thought we’d post a pic that BuzzFoto’s Brad Elterman took of the pop legend in 1980. The world will never know “Celebrity” like it did with Michael Jackson. Brad said of this photo:
” I was shooting this evening for the P.R. department of then Columbia Records. It was at the Universal Amphitheater and I remember David Geffen was somehow involved with the event. Back then, Michael did not travel with a gang of bodyguards and umbrellas. Liza had been performing that evening and she gave Michael a bit hug just for my camera.”

Michael Jackson’s passing was the death heard round the world. Michael’s music touched so many people in so many ways, we couldn’t help but pay tribute to to star. This photo was taken on the sidewalk at the old Chasen’s Restaurant in 1978. RIP Michael.

Back in the day in the seventies Buzz Foto was photographing the stars with film. Yes hard to believe it, but yes it is true. We had to have two cameras with us at all times. One for color and the other for black and white. Shooting color was always a very expensive proposition and it took at least one day to get the film processed. We were then faced with making duplicate slides and expensive prints. Then we had the taske of mailing or air freighting our photos to our magazine and newspaper clients in over thirty countries. Keep in mind that this was way before the days of FedEx. The good part is that there was practically zero competition and no one in the industry knew anything about photo syndication and could not fathom that you could make money with your photos in Europe, Australia and Japan. We of course were on our own mission.

Michael Jackson’s Funeral Procession

The hearse carrying the body of Michael Jackson left the Forest Lawn Mortuary and headed to the Staples Center for his funeral in Los Angeles, California.

A Tribute to Michael

There’s something stark and solemn about a black and white foto, and coupled with the subject, it’s a foto that will remain memorable. The Apollo Theater in Harlem honored the late Michael Jackson with a a memorial tribute at 5:26pm (the time he died) in New York City, New York. The marquee outside reads: “A moment of silence to honor Michael Jackson, 5:26pm, 6/30/2009.

Christian Audigier Sends Flowers to Michael

Christian Audigier sent flowers to the home of Michael Jackson in the Holmby Hills following reports of his death in Los Angeles, California. Read more
