If you do not remember Dukes or the Tropicana Motel than you were not on the scene in the Seventies. It was what we would call back then God Head. The Tropicana or the Trop as we would call it was a fleabag on Santa Monica Boulevard. The place had once been a legend in rock circles. Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Alice Cooper had all once made it their Hollywood base of operations. Our friend Joan Jet lived there. We hung out with Mick Ronson there. Need we say more? Tom Waits stayed there on and off for years and was always hanging with his best pal Chuck E Weiss. We would get requests from Music Life in Japan all the time for photos of Tom and one day after devouring our rather large Italian Burger and frozen Snickers Bar at Dukes, we performed a hose down on Tom. He did not verbally complain, but you can see it in his face in this photo. Guess that was the birth of Rock And Roll Paparazzi.
