The Wrestler is Down; Not Out

Mickey Rourke left the Red Carpet at the 2009 Academy Awards for an After-party on Sunday night in Los Angeles, California. Mickey looked in good spirits in spite of a disappointing night losing the Best Oscar award to Sean Penn. He probably had an inkling though – there’s been a lot of talk about how the Academy might acknowledge Prop 8 via Mr. Penn.

Kate Winslet has been nominated so very often for Oscars, but we think that the Academy has favored other, more older actors. Whatever, we won’t accept that for an excuse anymore. Give Kate her Best Actress Oscar! We suspect that there will be a great many golden statues in her future – she’s an amazing actress. And we also think that Kate is setting a nice precedence in her SAG Award win. Here she is on the SAG red carpet, in a lovely Narciso Rodriguez gown…looking every inch the best actress of her generation. Even Mickey Rourke came over to greet her with a kiss.

Wanna see Marisa Tomei give a lap dance? We think you’ll change your mind after you realize that it would be on top of this lap:

That’s right, in the new movie, The Wrestler, Marisa Tomei strips down to nothing and does a lap dance on Mickey Rourke’s has-been wrestler character. Let’s just say that reviews have been less than stellar. Of the lap dance we mean, not the movie. The movie actually got great reviews. Do we smell an Oscar? Or is it just the rotting stink of old jock straps and defeat?
What do you think? Hit or miss? People are saying Mickey’s comeback performance is sensational, so hopefully it will be a hit!

Mickey’s Rumored Win

The BBC News is reporting that Mickey RourkeÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s comeback performance in the film The Wrestler has earned him the spot in a short list of names for Best Actor at HollywoodÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s leading awards for independent film. The sports drama, which won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, is also up for best feature at the Spirit Awards, to be held on 21 February. We caught up with Mickey as he left the 18th Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City. We wish you luck Mickey!

Mickey’s Comeback…Again?

Everyone is saying that Mickey Rourke is finally making a comeback, though we’re not so sure. We’ll reserve judgment until we see The Wrestler, Mickey’s latest film that has been earning him some Oscar buzz around town. Of course, Mickey committed a bit of a gaffe earlier this month by allegedly using an anti-gay slur toward a reporter. He apologized though, and certainly seemed to harbor no ill will when he attended the after party for the Cinema Society’s screening of Milk in New York City last week.
