Karl Lagerfeld was another super important fashion designer spotted at the Waverly Inn in New York last night. He looked as classic, wacky, and “Karl” as he normally does: black suit, high-collared shirt, and a black tie. The thing that is different about his look is his tie, which is very wide. Many men’s magazines are starting a blacklash against the skinny ties that have been around for the past few season, and he’s decided to go in the opposite direction.
Many people think that Karl’s look is too easy and too repetive and wonder why he doesn’t change it up too often. Here’s our take on why: the designer has been at Chanel and Fendi for more than 20 years, he helped brand the boho-chic style we now associate with Chloe while he was the creative director in the 70s, and he continues to renew the image of Fendi and Chanel while maintaining his own namesake lines. The man works hard and he is a fashion icon. He deserves his own look – and we’re happy to give it to him.
