Singles Meets Alias?

Oh, we’d love to know what these two super-talented directors were talking about! Cameron Crowe and JJ Abrams were chatting happily as they departed the Starz Green Room panel discussion for The History of Progressive America: Performances during the 2008 Democratic Convention. Accompanying JJ was his lovely wife. Cameron Crowe is, of course, well-known for his fine films like Vanilla Sky and Almost Famous. JJ is the new It Boy in H-town, after huge success with Lost and Cloverfield. Collaboration, or just networking? Time will tell.

Return To Troubadour Twenty Five Years Later

Finally after a long 25 year absence, we made it back to our regular stomping grounds, Doug Weston’s Troubadour. Back in the seventies we were the the closet thing to the house photographer there taking shots for the bands and the record companies. The list of talent we saw and photographed was endless and it included Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell and Elton John. We saw John Lennon at the bar more than once.

There were these tables all over the floor and you would sit and have dinner and of course the coconut glace for dessert. Carly Simon loved the glace.

Back around 1978 we received a call from either RCA or Atlantic Records to photograph this new band called Hall And Oats. They were amazing and we did a photo session with them in the dressing room and hung out at the intimate party.

Since we did this gig for the record company, we had to kiss goodbye our negatives and looking back, that was a big mistake ( TOLD YA SO). We kept some prints and that was it. Hey we got two hundred bucks for the evening and that was a goldmine back then, plus we saw a great show and had a free booze tab. Live and learn.

So this week Hall and Oats returned to The Troubadour and we where there for both nights. Talk about a cosmic performance and evening. So surreal just to walk in there again and to see friends from three decades ago including in crowd writer director Cameron Crowe.

We were there with Rachael Stevens and had a total blast. Bob Emmer from Shout Factory was there documenting the entire evening. Afterward everyone headed over to Dan Tanas, just like in the old days.

The fotos were taken with our iPhone! From black and white film to iPhones. So surreal!
