Zooey is the New Girl
Zooey is the younger sister of “Bones” star Emily Deschanel, making a name for herself this fall in the brand new comedy “New Girl”. Zooey seems to be playing herself, a quirky girl with a heart of gold, who spontaneously breaks out in song and dance.
She’s been married to fellow musician, “Death cab for cutie” frontman Ben Gibbard since 2009. She has written and performed songs for various soundtracks for movies such as “Elf”, “Days of Summer” and “Yes Man”. Besides being a singer/songwriter, she also plays the keyboards, percussion, banjo, and ukulele.
Even though acting and singing is keeping her busy, she recently launched “HelloGiggles”, an entertainment website, which is specifically geared toward a female audience. Other gigs include a contract with make-up company Rimmel, and being a judge for the ninth Independent Music Awards.
Although she’s opposed to being typecasted as the protagonists’ best girl friend, saying: “A lot of these roles are just a formula idea of somebody’s best friend, and it’s like, I don’t even have that many friends… so I don’t know how I’m everybody’s best friend now.”, it’s probably not gonna change soon. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to be friends with hilarious Zooey?

Why Angelina Jolie Shines
With so many magazine covers focused on her personal life, it can be easy to forget that Angelina Jolie is one of the most accomplished actresses in Hollywood. Not only has Jolie been repeatedly nominated for some of the industry’s top acting awards, she is also one of its most bankable stars.
All this is impressive enough, but Jolie has used her success to bring attention to humanitarian disasters and need throughout the world. She has served as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for a decade, traveling to war-torn areas and refugee camps. To call attention to the the suffering she has seen, she has written articles, books, and filmed documentary and public service announcements. She has also lobbied on human rights issues in Washington D.C. and spoken at international conferences. She has founded several charitable organizations and publicly donated to many causes.
Jolie’s latest project could be seen as a melding of both her achievements in the craft of acting as well as her devotion to humanitarian work. Jolie’s directorial debut, In The Land of Blood and Honey, takes place during the Bosnian War. Jolie wrote the script and has said that she chose the subject matter as a way of bringing attention back to the region and the survivors of the war.
With women directing only 6% of films made, Angelina Jolie is a success simply by breaking into the ranks of directors. And by finding yet another way to use her influence to bring to light stories often overlooked, she has proven that one can’t accurately be judged by a (magazine) cover.

Big Changes For Adele

via Adele’s Twitter
British singer/songwriter sensation Adele is going under the knife for throat surgery. After a bout of laryngitis, she had to cancel her US concerts the beginning of October. In a recent statement, Adele apologized for having to cancel all concerts and appearances until further notice, in order to properly treat her vocal cord hemorrhage and recuperate fully. Otherwise, she said, she risked “damaging [her] voice forever.”
Adele who, early in her career, had been compared to other soul singers, such as the late Amy Winehouse, doesn’t appreciate being lumped together with other female singers, and responded: “We’re a gender, not a genre.” She’s established herself as a unique singer with breathtaking vocals, which are now at stake unfortunately.
Two time Grammy winner Adele has been making waves internationally, but is especially appreciated in her own country. British Prime Minister Gordon Brown even went so far as to send her a personal note, expressing his gratitude. Adele was touched by the letter which said: “with the troubles that the country’s in financially, you’re a light at the end of the tunnel.” She quipped: “I’m fighting the credit crunch on my own!”
