Jason Reitman’s Year is “Up in the Air”
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Mr. Reitman has a busy year ahead of him.
In 2009, Reitman and (this time) Paramount are hoping “Up in the Air,” his frequent-flyer tale starring George Clooney that unspools at Toronto, can finish off the hat trick.
Reitman actually wasn’t planning on debuting his pic — in which the bachelor Clooney meets the girl of his dreams just as his jetsetting life is threatened — at this time. The movie wasn’t supposed to be ready for another three months, in fact, but Reitman badly wanted to keep the Toronto streak going.
“We truncated the schedule to make it work,” he told Risky Biz when we caught up with him recently. As a result, it’s now one of three pics that features a principal from “Juno” (the Ellen Page-toplined “Whip It” and the Diablo Cody-penned “Jennifer’s Body,” which Reitman produced, are the others) to debut at the fall festival.
“Up in the Air” is the first pic since “Smoking” that features Reitman’s own writing — something he says gave him less pause than when he was shooting a script someone else (ie, Cody’s “Juno”) wrote. “If an actor misquoted my dialogue I wouldn’t think twice about it,” he said. “I’m allowed to say whether someone can abuse my language. But when it was Diablo it was like I was carrying her child.” Pause. “Figuratively.”
The studio is certainly clearing the decks for the dramedy — with the “Shutter Island” postponement, it now has just one other film releasing this fall (a small pic called “The Lovely Bones”). And Clooney’s is a character of the moment — he’s a hit man of the working world, jetting around the country coolly firing workers on behalf of his bosses, in what marks the second fall movie, after Mike Judge’s “Extract,” to tell a story from the perspective of The Man.

Hugh Jackman in New York
X-Men star Jackman recently revealed how his loyal wife looks after him with foot massages. ‘Daily. That’s not bad to say, is it?’ he told OK! magazine in the U.S., while she complimented his cooking skills in return.
‘He makes great crepes,’ said Furness. ‘He does the Sunday morning breakfast.’
When he’s not slaving away in the kitchen, the actor from Down Under has had his hands full lately with his one-man show and got rave reviews when it opened in San Francisco last month. He is now looking forward to taking the show, which features a mixture of his favourite Broadway and Hollywood musical numbers, on the road.
‘I feel blessed to be able to traverse both worlds, the movies and the theatre, but what really turns me on is making that connection with the audience, making something real happen on stage. There’s nothing like it,’ Jackman told American newspaper, the San Jose Mercury News.
