Actor Paul Reiser has returned to television to prove to his young son he has a job like other fathers.

The star took time out from the spotlight to focus on parenthood after his hit TV show Mad About You went off the air in 1999.

Reiser recently realized his kids had no idea about his career – and decided to return to acting to show them his work ethics.

During an appearance on Live With Regis and Kelly on Monday he says, “About a year and a half ago my little guy says, ’Dad let me ask you something. Dad what do you do? Because the other dads, they do something.’

“I said ’I should probably do something. He needs to know that his dad can do something.’ So I went and came up with an idea… This show (The Paul Reiser Show) is really about my life because I’m not smart enough to make anything up… So I play myself, I play a guy who’s been off the air, TV, for 10 years.”

Reiser has two children with wife Paula Ravets, Ezra Samuel, 15, and Leon, 10.
