Call it character fatigue, call it a lesson learned, but it seems that Carrie Bradshaw won’t be slipping on her Manolos anytime in the near future.
At least if you believe Sarah Jessica Parker who, according to the Washington Post, is said to be pro-threequel, anti-prequel when it comes to the franchise that made Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte such iconic characters. Parker said that “there’s one more story to tell” when it comes to the foursome, but her “Wha-a-a-at?!” reaction to the prospect of a prequel (rumored to be starring Blake Lively) makes it clear that the supposed adaptation of “Summer in the City” would not be supported by the show’s heroine.
Sex had a very limp sequel in 2010, a sequel that critics ravaged and consumers just shrugged at. I must admit, I’ve seen the series as a whole probably 3-4 times and I still haven’t seen the second movie, only because the first ended things well enough to where the second just felt superfluous (and I’m still very apathetic about the first movie). If they feel the need to make a third movie, I only hope the story is strong enough and that they’ve learned things from the first two films in order to provide a proper swan song for our four favorite Manhattan gals. To keep rehashing the show strictly for monetary purposes (even though the sequel did a fraction of the predecessor’s business, it still made a pretty penny) is frustrating as a fan. If you don’t have the story, let the franchise die. Please.
