Cyndi Lauper is currently on tour performing songs from her latest album, ‘Memphis Blues.’ She told Chelsea Handler that blues was “the basis of all modern music — unless it’s gospel, but I didn’t go to that church,” she joked on ‘Chelsea Lately’ (weeknights, 11PM ET on E!). “I was at the folk mass with the priests that were mad ’cause it used to be in a foreign language and now it was in English.”
“The music wasn’t as good,” but she appreciated the priests’ fashion sense. “One guy had a purse that was on fire, and I just thought that was fierce.” (Our guess is she’s referring to incense smoke.)

With Handler and the studio audience in stitches, the host figured Lauper could ditch singing and start a solo comedy show “just talking.” Lauper then quipped that the British didn’t take to her particular brand of “Queens English,” as in Queens in New York City, where she was born and raised.
