An Atlanta woman is counting on her fingers – specifically her fingernails – to become her claim to fame.
She’s been growing them for 22 years and the longest is 24 inches.
“I am very, very blessed,” says Jazz Ison Sinkfield, a mother and grandmother. She wants to share what she considers a talent with the world. “One day, I want to meet Oprah and a lot of more celebrities.”
Occasionally, she says people see her nails and make ugly remarks.
“The women will turn their nose up to me,” she says. “Some people are jealous.”
She believes most women desire extra-long nails like hers, “because it’s a fashion statement now.”
Sinkfield backs her fashion statement with monthly nail spa visits take five hours and cost $250.
“It’s easy to get messed up,” said Rose Nguyen of Exotic Nail and Spa, looking at her client’s twisting fingernails.
Maintenance is also about avoiding the hazards that can threaten her ongoing fashion statement.
“There isn’t anything that I can’t do. The only thing I can’t do is I cannot tie shoes,” Sinkfield said. She adds that she cannot type on a computer, nor go bowling.
“Of course, I don’t take off the jewelry,” she said, gesturing to her rings and bracelets, which would have to traverse her 20-inch nails to come off.
