The 5’10″ Port, 25, insists the fast wasn’t to lose weight, but too “detoxify” her body after she indulged in too much wine, chips and other fatty foods.
In August 2010, Whitney’s former co-star Kristin Cavallari did a 10-day detox diet, but lamented that “I can’t stop thinking of all the food I want!”
‘I’m Not Fasting for Weight Loss’
Whitney, who did the juice fast with her sister Paige, explained on her blog:
“I have been putting a lot of unhealthy things in my body recently, i.e. overeating peanut brittle, chips and dip, wine, etc, and have been feeling tired and sluggish all the time. To us it is not about losing weight or trying the newest fad, but about being healthy and detoxifying our bodies.”
The super-skinny Port consumed nothing but 6 juices a day for 3 days. “I know some of you may think this is crazy, but we are going to try it and see how it goes!” she says.
Health and fitness experts have conflicting views on the benefits of detox cleanses and fasts, with some arguing the digestive system needs a break from the constant metabolizing of food, while others insist cleanses are unnecessary and potentially dangerous.
‘I Gained 25 Lbs. In College’
Like her Hills co-stars Lauren Conrad, Audrina Patridge, Heidi Montag and Kristin Cavallari, Whitney has underwent a dramatic transformation since first appearing in the MTV reality tv series, which ran from 2006 to 2010.
Port says she was heavier when the show premiered in 2006 because she had gained “the freshman 25? while attending University of Southern California.
After graduating, Whitney eventually lost the weight by following a strict 1,000-calorie-a-day diet, slimming down to 115 pounds.
Now a budding fashion designer, Port stays fit by walking outdoors and on the treadmill, riding her bike, doing Pilates and lifting weights.
Walking, Weight-Lifting, Biking
Whitney, who tries to work out three times a week, skips a day or two when she feels like it.
“I will get into phases where I’ll have to work out every day or every other day, and then I’ll get out of the swing of it, and it’ll be hard to get into it again,” she has said.
“Right now, I’m in a rut. It takes me going to the gym a couple times for me to get back into the routine. When I can’t make it to the gym, I’ll do push-ups and sit-ups in my apartment.”
Port, whose addiction is bread and butter, says she has to be careful because she has a tendency to binge-eat.
“I don’t have the biggest sweet tooth, so it’s not that big of a problem,” she says. “My junk food issue is savory stuff, like French fries and pizza.
“Bread and butter is my favorite food. I could eat that all day long, and if someone puts it in front of me, it’s always very hard to say no to it. That’s the biggest challenge.”
‘I Try Not to Obsess Over Dieting’
Whitney, who’s happy with her body, says eating small portions of your favorite foods is the key to maintaining a slim bikini body.
“Sometimes I’ll eat so fast, I won’t even realize how much I’m eating,” she says. “The key is to eat slow, and make sure you’re not eating past your satisfaction limit.”
Despite the pressure to look good and be super-skinny in Hollywood, Port says she tries not to get obsessive about dieting.
“I try to just eat healthy and take care of myself,” she said. “I don’t make my diet the main focus.”
