Let me take a guess at it: MAYBE because the dominant narrative of “Tiger Woods” has been challenged and proven to be the opposite of that narrative (Nice guy, solid family man etc)? That is exactly why everyone cares so much! Even his corporate sponsor(s) are reconsidering him and so far as I know Gatorade has dropped him.
If you consider the scope and purpose of Celebrity Journalism as a legitimate functioning arm of the “press”, in this case it has done it’s job. Which I suppose is: to debunk or confirm anything that has perpetuated by Publicists, press releases, or inferences made by Corporate sponsors or large influential interests that stand to benefit from “positive responses” to a person by the public.
This is practically a “Case Study” or at least a perfect example of the conflict between what the public has been led to believe and what “actually is”. In the case of Tiger Woods I would suggest that if you informally surveyed most anyone in the USA they would have said, “Hes a role model, a nice clean guy, a good man, etc” Now, we see the evidence of an effective smoke screen and en masse lies with relation to his character and the public cares because they rely on reporting to reconcile the two.
I’m going to say Streisand because she is def A list and Ted C was hinting at something similar.
I’ll throw in also Beyonce,or Fergie.
